Date of graduation: December, 2004
Carolina Week Testimonial: As many CWers will attest, our time spent in the Carroll studio and edit suites laid the first bricks of our career paths...helping us figure out what we wanted to do, which always changed from the initial ideas that brought us to our first CW interest meetings. Unlike our friends with different majors, we gained practical and professional experience by heading straight to the field, but most especially, through learning from our classmates. From starting out as a studio camera operator to running the sports department in my final year, I learned from veteran CWers about every facet of studio and field production, as well as reporting and management. The most rewarding aspect of working at CW was guiding my reporters, videographers and anchors to make our sports coverage award-winning and, sometimes, even better than local broadcasts. Helping them learn to shoot, edit, write and find creative stories, I also learned management skills that have become invaluable since graduation. Twice a week, we worked hard, pushed ourselves through long hours at the UNC games and sleepless nights in Carroll (good thing that the studio and edit suites didn't have windows) to produce the best broadcast possible and, of course, live. But, in true CW style, we played hard; and I have friends and colleagues who will be with me the rest of my life.
