Brendon AndersonDate of graduation: May, 2007 Carolina Week Testimonial: Looking back on my time at Carolina Week, I have to say that it went by way too fast. It offered a real glimpse of life in the television business, from shooting and writing packages to nervously waiting for the director to punch up your live shot. At the time I viewed it as just a required course but I see now that it really helped prepare me for the business world. To anyone reading this and considering a career in television, listen up! Use your time in Carolina Week wisely. Volunteer for extra work. Chase every story you can. Learn to shoot, edit, write, produce and anchor, because you never know what you might have to do once you get into the field. The news business is rapidly changing and evolving. Speed will be the most important element of your job description. You'll probably have to take a low paying job in a small market right out of college, even though you probably got the best training possible at Carolina Week. If you're really motivated and determined you'll succeed, but don't let anyone tell you it's easy. Listen closely to Dr. T. Even when he seems tough you must realize it's for your own good and your first boss might not care about you like Dr. T does. Learn as much as you can...and then learn more. |
