Brent BatesDate of graduation: May, 2005 Carolina Week Testimonial: Carolina Week is the best experience you can get if you're interested in working in broadcast journalism. I worked at Carolina Week both as a producer and as a reporter, and I got a job producing at an NBC affiliate right after graduating. Within my first week on the job, I was producing a live, one-hour broadcast, and the transition from Carolina Week to the "real world" of TV news was pretty seamless. In a live newscast, a seemingly infinite number of things can go wrong, and the only way to prepare for those inevitabilities is with hands-on experience. I was able to handle the challenges of my first job because I had "been there before" with Carolina Week. If you're interested in broadcast journalism, or just think you might be interested, I'd recommend getting involved with Carolina Week. The show provided me with great experience; and 20 years from now, I'm going to get a huge laugh out of turning on the TV and seeing one of my old classmates delivering the evening news. |
