Carolina Week Testimonial: As a recent graduate currently working in the entertainment industry in Hollywood, I can honestly say my time with Carolina Week and Carolina Connection gave me the tools and the confidence I needed to apply myself and work in this industry. These two programs force you to step out of your comfort zone and talk to people you would never talk to. You figure out how to get your story completed and meet your deadlines no matter what challenge is put in your way. In these programs I learned an incredibly valuable skill that I am constantly using in my job every day - Problem Solving. This is something you can not teach in a typical class, but it will help you for the rest of your life. Carolina Week exposed me to the experience of producing live television and Carolina Connection took my writing skills to a whole new level. I will always be thankful for all the time Professor Hochberg spent going over my scripts with me. What I love about both programs is the amazing connections you make with your teachers and classmates because of the intense team effort involved to produce the best show possible.
I'm still learning every day at work and my bosses favorite line is, "Did they teach you this in college?" There's no way I could have graduated knowing everything about this fascinating entertainment industry- you have to work here to understand it. However, I explain to my boss that actually yes, I did learn something in college and my experiences at UNC gave me the confidence, the foundation, and the problem solving skills I need to be ready for work every day.
