Carolina Week Testimonial: As far as replicating the professional experience a UNC graduate can expect at his or her first job, few opportunities on campus rival Carolina Week -- except maybe if you played for Roy on the hoops team. For me, CW was the ideal stepping stone to the real world. The high quality of work and professionalism expected of CW'ers prepares you for that initial foray into your first newsroom. If you've read other testimonials before mine, you'll see that my advice is the same as nearly every other alum (so there must be some truth to it) -- get involved ASAP. No matter how little time you have or small your contribution might be, getting your foot in the door will lead to the best opportunities to hone your craft as you creep closer to graduation. Like the real world, CW often follows a hierarchy -- but it's well worth it. The sooner you cover field hockey, the sooner you'll find yourself sitting under the Tar Heel basket shooting a men's basketball game (no knock on field hockey, but you get my point). I also like to think of it this way -- you pay an absurd amount of money for classes you'll never use in your professional life -- while all along Carolina Week sits there for FREE. All you have to do is walk in and volunteer. It will be the most useful and rewarding experience you can have at UNC pursuant to your career. Just get involved.
