Bio: The passion I have for filmmaking has always been one of the most significant influences in my life. Documentary work has allowed me to explore my creativity, and my creativity has enabled me to better appreciate the world around me.

As a Journalism and Communication Studies double major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I take my education very seriously and I am constantly challenging myself to work diligently. In addition to my studies at Chapel Hill, I am also working towards a Certificate in Documentary Studies at Duke University. The satisfaction I receive from academic success is the same as in making films: your greatest effort will result in your finest work.

As a founding member and current president Students of the World I am thrilled to be heading UNC’s first student documentary organization. In May of 2006, in partnership with Clinton Global Initiative, five fellow students and I traveled to Tabasco, Mexico in order to document “Van Mujeres,” a microfinance program designed specifically for women. This summer, I lead a team of six to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to produce a documentary film concerning ethnic intolerance near the Kazakhstan border.

My unfailing dedication to “Carolina Week,” UNC’s biweekly news show, has reinforced my passion for filmmaking. I find myself empowered by broadcast journalism, a profession that can both inform and inspire. This environment has helped me not only become more interested in the field of broadcasting but also has taught me the valuable lessons of cooperation and a commitment to excellence. A lifelong connection to broadcast has rewarded me with opportunities that continue to expand my knowledge and encourage my future goals. I am indebted to the University of North Carolina Center for Public Television (UNC-TV) for allowing me to gain invaluable professional experience as their first crew volunteer during live broadcast. Four years and four hundred hours later, my enthusiasm for public television has instilled a sense of public service into my documentary and journalism endeavors. As an intern for ABC 11 Eyewitness News (WTVD) in Durham, I learned to appreciate the strength and skill of feature and investigative reporting.

Presently, I work as WTVD’s Carolina News Link Operator, helping to improve the diversity of news coverage from all over the state. After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in documentary filmmaking: where the fusion of art and reality can inspire actual change. No matter what interests or challenges enter my life, my passion for film is continually rooted in everything I do. I stand determined to use my talents for the greater good. I hope to live life to its fullest by contributing to the lives of others through my service as a filmmaker.
