After a historic finish in the Sweet Sixteen last December, Carolina volleyball players are starting this season with more than victory on their minds.
They want total domination.
Ranked 20th in the nation, the Heels shut out their first three opponents 9-0 at the Glaxo Smith Kline UNC Volleyball Classic.
With 101 assists, sophomore McKenzie Byrd helped UNC beat visiting teams Oregon, James Madison and Temple.
But the star of the weekend was outside hitter Molly Pyles.
With 38 kills and 20 digs, the UNC junior was named Most Valuable Player and received nominations for Carolina Waterscapes Student Athlete of the Week.
The Tar Heels head south Saturday, hoping to continue their winning streak against Michigan State and South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
