Residents
to Give Local School a Name
By Caitlin Clinard
Construction is underway for a new Orange
County middle school, and students need your
help giving it a name. Hillsborough is now
home to two middle schools, but a third is
on the way. Many students will be reassigned
to the new school next year, but they don’t
know the name of their new school yet—because
it doesn’t have one.
“
Middle School No. 3” is waiting for
a new name, and the Orange County Board
of Education has a creative solution: In
an attempt to get the community involved,
the board has posted an online form asking
for name suggestions.
Orange County spokeswoman Anne D’Annunzio
thinks the community will have interesting
ideas.
“It’d be pretty fun to come
up with a name for the new middle school
that involves something to do with history,
or something significant to the geography
of the area,” she said.
If you’re interested in taking part
in the naming process suggestions must be
in by Sept. 27. Go to www.orange.k12.nc.us/middle
to get to the form.
