| How
to Prepare for Hurricane Season
By Janelle Alissa Henry
Hurricane season is here...are you prepared?
Here are a few tips to help you get ready:
Start by making an emergency kit. Include
nonperishable foods, water and a battery
operated radio. Next, stop by your bank and withdraw at least 100 dollars in
cash. If power goes out this might be the only money you'll have access to.
And be sure to document your belongings
such as your car and house on video. If
you
have to evacuate, take the tape with you for insurance purposes.
However, many people will not prepare.Andrew
Zoeler, a Chapel Hill resident, says hurricane
preparation isn't even on his mind.
“Honestly, I think that
we are far enough inland that it’s not going to affect us that badly. I
mean, yes, we’ll get a lot of rain, but I don’t think we’re
going to have massive power outages.”
Unfortunately, hurricanes can do major damage
this far inland. Only 10 years ago, Hurricane
Fran devastated the Triangle region.
