Students Still Sorting Out New Printing Charges
By Angela Watson

Keep your One Cards handy if you want to print anything.

Lonely printers sit in computer labs while confused students try to figure out the new printing process, and for some students, the new swipe-to-print policy might be a big headache.

In the past year, students have printed more than 30 million sheets of paper, that's enough to make a stack more than 9,000 feet tall.

Brian Phelps, Student Body Vice President, said he hopes the new policy keeps student fees in areas where they are needed most.

“This past year we printed more than we even anticipated that it would increase, so we actually had to take money away from replacing computers and replacing printers in order to pay for the paper and the toner and some of the costs of printing,” says Phelps.

However, students should not worry. For five cents per page, students get 500 “free” sheets of paper each semester before they will have to go into their pockets each time they print.
