| Service
to Send Campus Info to Cell Phones
By Justin Smith
Soon students will be able to use cell phones
text messaging to access a wealth of campus
information.
The service will allow students to read and
delete messages in their UNC-CH e-mail account.
Students can also receive a text alert when
changes are made on their class blackboard
sites.
Cell phone users who already have a data plan
can sign up for the free service beginning
in mid-October.
University officials say they are eager
to hear what students have to say about
the features.
“Finding a spot to sit down and flip open your phone is a whole lot better
than going to the Union to get on computers or waiting in line to get on computers
or going back to your dorm or booting up your computer,” sophomore Andy
Ives said. “I think if it was instituted, I would definitely use it.”
The service might also help students better
plan their morning commutes. Users will
be able to track Chapel Hill buses and find
out how long they’ll have
to wait for the next one to arrive.
