Life-saving Licenses
By Angela Watson

For many teens, a driver’s license is more than a license-- it is a symbol of freedom. Unfortunately, scenes of tragic wrecks are all too familiar. Mangled Cars, and shattered windows are things that teens cannot learn in driver’s education, and the average 16-year-old can lose sight of the dangers of driving once they get their license.

However, the graduated license has provisions that have proven to decrease the occurrence of fatal car accidents among teens.

Sandy Cook, a mother of four, said she is up to speed with the policy and said that she has seen what happens to parents who lose a child in a fatal car accident.

“The parents suffered so much, and as a result, he [the father] himself didn’t live much longer, and I think he died of a heart attack”

Experts estimated that fatal crashes involving teens have dropped by eleven percent across the nation because of the provisions of the graduated license provisions.

So the next time you drive somewhere stop and think about how the streets and highways are a little safer because of the provisions on the graduated license.
