PTA Thrift Shop an Outlet for Smart Donations
By Kate Schoen

The next time you clean out your closet, consider donating your hand-me-downs. A local thrift shop will sell them to help local schools in a big way.

You’ve probably noticed the mural outside the PTA Thrift Shop in Carrboro. For more than fifty years, the store has accepted donated items like clothing, books and computers. The shop sells the goods and hands over a big chunk of the profits to area schools.

This year more than a quarter of a million dollars went to Chapel Hill and Carrboro PTAs.

And it looks like profits will continue to rise. A newer and bigger donation center opens October 11th.

Operations Manager Valecia Jones says the community makes the store successful.

“The dedication and hard work of all the staff, the volunteers, board members, and the surrounding community. Everybody as a one makes this successful,” Jones said.

Through the years, the store has sold everything from a diamond ring to a horse. For more information about making donations, go to www.ptathriftshop.com.
