Women's Basketball Routs Miami
by Anne Sexton

While the men's team has been roughing it in ACC play, the Lady Heels started conference action Monday afternoon against Miami with their own little welcome wagons. Point guard Ivory Latta and No. 20 Camille Little held the nation's leading scorer Tamara James completely scoreless in the 1st half.

Latta controlled the offensive attack with 13 straight points and helped pull the Heels ahead of the Canes 45-20 at halftime.

The second half was no different. UNC's total domination of the ball kept Miami at bay, and the Heels stormed away with an 83-52 win. Latta said it was a total team effort that helped her score big in this 1st ACC victory.

"All that goes to my teammates. They were just spotting me...that's what they was telling me to spot up and they was doing a great job...wonderful teammates I tell ya."

With 23 points against N.C. State on Friday and 15 against Miami on Monday, center Erlana Larkins was named ACC rookie of the week for the second time this season. Larkins' skills will come in handy in Thursday's match-up against FSU, which has last week's rookie of the week, Roneeka Hodges, on the roster.
