Women’s
Tennis Sweeps Pair
by Dylan Field
It is winter and you know what that means:
women's tennis. The 15th-ranked Tar Heels
kicked the 2005 season off Saturday with
a day-night double header at the Cone-Kenfield
Tennis Stadium in Chapel Hill.
The Heels dismissed Davidson with extreme prejudice in the early match 6 -1.
The Heels won all three doubles matches and 5 of the 6 singles matches.
The UNC-Greensboro Spartans took their turn behind the woodshed in the nightcap.
The Heels were so dominant, the Spartans apparently forgot the point of the
game is to hit the ball, not get hit by it. The Heels swept the three doubles
matches again.
Aniela Mojzis, ranked No. 26, made sure her singles opponent get a little exercise
before getting back on the bus. Not even the dreaded underhand serve could
stop the Heels, who swept all six singles matches in straight sets.
The Tar Heels next hit the court Saturday against Tennessee at 1 p.m., and
play Elon later that day at seven.
