Routs Miami
by Jon Leggette
After avenging last year's loss at Clemson,
the Tar Heels looked to stretch their home
winning streak to 11 as they took on ACC
newcomer Miami.
Things were going easy for the Heels at first as Raymond Felton passed easily
to Jawad Williams for a slam dunk.
But then the Heels went as cold from outside the arc as it was outside the
Smith Center. The team was one for 11 from 3-point land in the first half.
So what did they do? They sent it inside to Sean May where things were nice
and toasty.
Then, of all people, Jackie Manuel brought his scarf and gloves
to play outside.
At halftime, Olympians like Lindsey Tarpley were honored, and Mia Hamm's ovation
almost brought the house down.
Then the Heels came back from the half for the play of the game. May had the
block and knocked it to Jawad. Jawad brought it up the court to the unselfish
McCants, who passed it back to Jawad for a slam dunk. Who says the Heels don't
have chemistry?
Sean May finished the game with 17 points and 15 rebounds, but he knows the
team must play better.
"It just wasn't pretty," May said. "We got the win, and a win
is a win, but we are a long ways from where we need to be."
