Crushes Virginia, Bows to No. 7 Nebraska
by Heather Catlin and Wes Wilson
On Friday the Tar Heel wrestlers went head
to head with University of Virginia in Carmichael
Auditorium.
UNC-CH's Bobby Shaw who started the Heels
off with a win.
Freshman Chris Ramos continued the winning
streak after going into two overtimes in
the 149 pound weight class.
Unfortunately, head coach Glen Lanham's advice wasn't enough to help junior
Garrett Atkinson, who was slammed by Virginia's Will Durkee at 165.
Freshman Alex Maciag also felt the wrath of the Cavaliers, but the Heels
still led 15-12.
Heavyweight Spencer Nadowsky ended the night with a victory and hugged his
competition good-bye, leaving the Heels with a final score of 25-12.
Nadowsky says it could be a good year.
"We're young, but we've got some talent on the team that could go far at
the end of the year," said Nadowsky. "I guess it just depends on
the last, on the last tournament--NCAA--'cause everything before that is basically
meaningless."
Only two Heels could keep the hot streak
going Saturday. Shaw and Evan Sola
won their matches, but that was it for the
Tar Heels. They fell to No. 7 Nebraska 34-7. |
