Tuition Debate Continues
by Mary McGuirt and Erika Heyder

Several UNC-CH students showed up at the Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday afternoon to hear the board members discuss options for raising tuition. The board has been considering the three options, and students appeared at the meeting voicing concerns about tuition hikes.

Chancellor James Moeser recommends raising in-state and out-of-state tuition by similar percentages, but that would mean a larger increase for out-of-state students. Student Body President Matt Calabria doesn't think tuition should be raised so steeply for out-of-state students. Provost Robert Shelton relates to students and parents struggling to meet ever-increasing tuition demands.

"I had three kids go through school--it's part of the deal," said Shelton.

Whichever option the board chooses, the increase won't go into effect until next academic year.
