Code Changes
Affect CAA
by Elizabeth Storch
The Student Congress proposal to merge
Carolina Fever, the University’s student
fan club, with the Ram’s Club, the
official booster organization, has met with
lots of
opposition. At a recent open hearing, the
merger was the most talked about item on
the agenda.
The proposed merger would mean stricter
guidelines for the Carolina Athletic
Association. It would also mean higher
dues for Carolina Fever members, perhaps
resulting in decreased participation.
Varsity coaches such as Anson Dorrance spoke about the importance of Carolina
Fever and CAA to their teams. Dorrance even showed a video clip highlighting
Fever's participation at away games.
Lindsay Strunk, CAA president, said the proposed changes would hurt the association.
“The students associate Ram’s Club with people sitting down below
in the Dean Dome, the people who aren't standing up and cheering,” said
Strunk. “And it would be ironic to convert the name to Student Ram’s
Club and have those be our die-hard fans.”
Congress members dropped a proposal that would place limits on CAA's budget,
but other items are still on the table, including changes in ticket distribution
and Homecoming activities.
