Taking Actions against Carrboro Annexation
by R.J. Weber
It’s been less than a week since Carrboro
incorporated some 850 new residents, and
annexation opponents are vowing the fight
isn’t over yet. Residents who left
last Tuesday’s
Board of Alderman meeting with dismal faces
are already taking actions against the plan.
A group of residents has an attorney reviewing
the legal arguments. The group plans to push
forward with legal challenges in the near
future. Other opponents are busy lobbying
the General Assembly to change state laws
that allow
involuntary annexation. Residents are also
acting politically.
“I would imagine that you might see
some of the faces around here running for
Carrboro alderman in the next year or so,” said
Katrina Ryan, a Highlands neighborhood resident.
The aldermen continue to defend their decision,
saying annexation is necessary for the long-term
growth of Carrboro. |
