University Seniors Give Back
by Erin Macbeth

Super Bowl Sunday isn’t just for watching football. Sunday evening, some UNC-CH students gave back, like they do every week.

About 10 University seniors dedicate their time to helping local Special Olympic athletes at the Hargraves Community Center. They coach and encourage special needs children from ages four to 20. Volunteers help athletes with games, drills, and occasionally a little pep talk. High fives were common, and smiles were big as the team wrapped up its practice.

The University’s involvement is coordinated by the senior class marshals. Ja’Netta Crowson, a UNC-CH senior marshal, said the athletes aren’t the only ones who get something out of the practices.
