Cuts Would Affect North Carolina
by Ross Weidner
President Bush has begun the push for his
domestic agenda. The next stop for his Social
Security reform tour is right here in the
Triangle.
In his first visit to the state since Election
Day, Bush will hold a town hall meeting Thursday
in Raleigh to discuss his plans for Social
Security. But Social Security isn't all that's
on the mind of North Carolinians.
Bush's new budget includes a $1 billion
cut to North Carolina's Medicaid program
and almost $40 million in cuts to high school
vo-tech programs.
On the positive side, the budget includes
$18 million for new schools at Fort Bragg
and a 4.5 percent increase in public school
programs for low-income and special-education
students.
