Offers Help for Roommate Problems
by Sean Maroney
For many students, coming to college means
dealing with new people—especially
with roommates. Although roommate problems
aren't typically an honor code violation,
avenues do exist to settle disputes.
The Dispute Settlement Center on Weaver Street
in Carrboro offers mediation, facilitation,
and conflict resolution. The center has offered
alternative ways to settle conflicts for
nearly 30 years.
The center’s Youth Outreach Director
Will Dudenhausen said the key to the center's
work is bringing people together.
“We believe that collaboration is the underused method of dealing with
conflict, and that’s what our philosophy is,” said Dudenhausen. “[We]
can help people collaborate instead of avoid the conflict or compete with other
people.”
The center also offers volunteer opportunities. Click the Dispute
Settlement Center link for more information.
