Class President Candidates to Run Off
by Joe Mott
Madison Perry and Whit Walker shouted for
the Tar Heels and for their campaigns on
Wednesday. Bobby Whisnant and Jenny Peddycord
headed to the business school to try to find
potential voters, and another seven days
of campaigning began.
It was supposed to end the night before,
as the crowd waited in anticipation in Carroll
Auditorium for the results. But the results
weren't what anyone suspected.
“There’s no majority,” said
Board of Elections Chairwoman Heather Sidden. “So
we’re going to have to have a runoff.
The percentages are: Madison Perry and Whit
Walker with 915 votes, so that equals .495935
[percent]. Bobby and Jenny got 914 votes,
[or] .495393 [percent].”
After a night’s rest, Perry was able
to look back on the emotions he felt Tuesday
night.
“I didn’t hear anything for
the next five minutes,” said Perry. “I
was just sitting there with different emotions,
going through different facial expressions.”
Whisnant says he thinks his staffers were
over-confidant the first time around, but
plans to apply what he's learned to the final
week.
“I hope that last night shows people
what we actually need to do, and that it’s
not a game,” said Whisnant.
So the campaign is on again. Candidates
are holding up signs, signing up people to
campaign, and doing anything they can to
get the voters’ attention. Both pairs
say they have some surprises up their sleeves
for the next week when the rising seniors
try again to decide which two will best represent
them.
