Beauty Institute Opens on Franklin Street
by Vicky Fernández

A beauty institute is opening on Franklin Street, and as many as 10,000 UNC-CH students, most of them female, are eager to enjoy its services.

Aveda Institute sells body and hair products and spa services. In addition, the institute will soon become a school of cosmetology and esthiology. Instructors are getting ready to welcome new students.

Aveda Institute plans to educate students in all aspects of the beauty industry. Some of the services the more advanced students will be able to perform for the public will be hair cutting and styling, skin and body care, nail care and make up application. Director Tracy Main says there won't be cut-rate fees for students, but prices will be cheaper for everyone.

“Color starts at $30 and facial starts at $30,” says Main. “So we are a learning environment, you got an excellent service at a little bit better pricing.”
