Supporters Highlight Candidate’s Charisma
by R.J. Weber
On Tuesday, voters will elect next year’s
student body president. After last week’s
initial election, only two candidates remain
on the ballot for this week’s run-off
election.
Seth Dearmin earned 40 percent of the votes
last Tuesday and hopes he will still have
the advantage Tuesday night.
As election season cranks into full gear
and the long hours of campaigning start to
take toll, Dearmin still remembers who he
is and why he’s here.
“A lot of times, we get the mindset
that we have to do so many things when we
really just need to sit back, relax and realize
that we have to have a good time while we’re
doing it because it’s not really worthwhile,” Dearmin
said. “If we’re not doing things
we’re passionate about, there’s
no sense in putting our time into them.”
Dearmin’s roommate, Tom Hodges, agrees
that Dearmin enjoys life to the fullest and
says his charismatic demeanor makes him the
perfect guy for student body president.
“Seth’s definitely
one of the nicest kids I’ve ever met,” Hodges
said. “He’s the most friendly
guy I’ll ever be around. I feel like
he knows everyone on campus.”
In fact, Dearmin says his platform is designed
around these very relationships he’s
made during his three years at UNC-CH.
“There’s really something in
there for everybody,” Dearmin said. “And
everybody’s life’s going to be
a lot easier and a lot more fun as a result.”
Dearmin promises to make condoms readily
available in every dorm and to implement
a predictable tuition program. He wants to
establish on-campus voting precincts, and
he says you’d be able to pick up some
ripe fruits and vegetables at a farmer’s
market located right inside the new Ram’s
Head Center.
Dearmin says he’s just a normal college
student.
“I really just enjoy hanging out with
fun young ladies and good friends and having
a good time,” he says.
And if Dearmin can pull off the victory
against Seke Ballard on Tuesday night, Hodges
promises there will be a celebration.
“Oh, it’ll be a fun, fun time
on Friendly Lane if Seth pulls
it off,” he says.
