| Senior
Class President Candidates Lobby for Final
Votes
by Joe Mott
In past years, one round of voting was
sufficient. But after each pair of senior
class candidates received 49 percent of the
vote, instead of the required 50 percent
plus one, they took to the Pit for another
week of campaigning.
While Whit Walker shouted for their campaign and attempted to hula-hoop for
the attention of the crowd, Madison Perry spent time talking to potential voters.
Walker said that, although his school work has suffered, the past week was
about infusing their campaign with energy and less about their platform.
“A lot of folks are just tired of hearing platforms being beat over their
head with it,” said Walker. “Folks know our platform. [They] know
we have a lot of leadership abilities, so we've been really trying to publicize
it.”
On the other side of the Pit Jenny Peddycord and Bobby Whisnant supporters
danced to karaoke, and, in Valentine’s Day spirit, puckered up at a kissing
booth for willing voters.
With help from former student body president candidates Tom Jenson and Leigha
Blackwell, Peddycord said Monday's activities were all about their platform.
“We want everything to basically come back to our platform,” said
Peddycord. “So, even [with] the kissing booth, we're hoping that it will
be an opportunity for us to talk to people and for them to ask us questions.”
Students vote for their choice on Tuesday, and polls close at 10:00 p.m.
