Wins Season Opener
by Wes Wilson
For the UNC-CH baseball team, practice is
over, and the season is here. Appalachian
State University drove down to Chapel Hill
from the mountains to take
on one of the best pitchers in the country,
pre-season All-American Andrew Miller.
Miller proved why Baseball America and other
top sports publications have put so much
stock in him. He scattered 7 hits over 6
and two-thirds scoreless innings and used
a much
improved
move to first base to pickoff two Mountaineers.
For the Tar Heels, they didn't need much
offense. After the first inning, in fact,
they didn't need any. Designated Hitter Ross
Cook provided the fireworks early in the
first inning with
a three-run blast to right field.
Then in the second inning, Carolina scored
two more runs on an Appalacian State error
and held off the Mountaineers the rest of
the way for the 5-0 win.
Carolina will play Seton Hall in the weekend
series.
