| Surprise
Relief for Student Congress
by Kristi Keck
Student Congress members can sleep easier
because a surprise influx of funds has at
least partially relieved representatives'
fears of an unbalanced budget. The committee found out Tuesday that last
year's increase in student activities fees
yielded an extra $86,000.
The committee now has $114,000 to work with this spring, instead of the $28,000
Student Congress was planning on stretching out for the rest of the semester.
Representatives were especially worried about the budget after more than 94
groups applied for funding this year.
Last year only 70 groups received funds.
Student groups go before Student Congress starting on Feb. 18. The committee
has until then to balance what is now a much larger budget.
