May Soon See MTV Station on Campus
by Elizabeth Crumpler
Some UNC-CH students are pushing to bring
a student-centered version of MTV to campus.
Students at Duke University already have
access to MTV’s year-old channel
MTVu, which airs news, music, and other information geared toward a collegiate
audience. The “u” in the title stands for “university.”
Jesse Longoria, vice president of Duke student government, said few Duke students
realize that the station even exists, let alone take advantage of the benefits
the station offers, such as free student advertising.
Longoria said both Duke and UNC-CH students would take advantage of MTVu if
the station had more exposure.
“I think that it could get a lot more publicity than it does,” Longoria
said. “Most students on campus that didn’t have any direct
relationship with trying to bring it to Duke--they won’t really know what
it is.”
To find out more about what MTVu has to offer, visit the MTVu
website.
UNC-CH’s
Senior Class Vice President Becca Frucht encourages students who want to access
the channel to contact Colin Scott, president of the Residence
Hall Association, at crscott@email.unc.edu, and Larry Hicks, associate director
of housing, at larry_hicks@unc.edu.
