University Opens Renovated Health Sciences Library
by Joe Mott

Public bond money and $1 million in private donations made a renovation of the health sciences library possible. The $13-million renovation project started two years ago.
Some of the new features include 140 public computer workstations, study areas with views of campus and an electronically controlled compact shelving system in the basement.

UNC System President Molly Broad spoke at the opening ceremony about the bonds that helped pay for the renovation and what the changes represent.

“These bonds for Chapel Hill represent about a half billion dollars worth of new construction that will help make this campus ready for 21st century teaching, research, and outreach,” said Broad.

More than $11 million of the money for the library came from the higher education bond referendum of 2000.
