Carolina Indian Circle Sponsors Powwow
by Kristen Robinson

There are more than 100 Native American tribes in North Carolina. Several of those tribes joined together Saturday in a celebration of Native American community, life and spirituality.

Colorful regalia, fancy footwork and thunderous sounds filled the Great Hall Saturday when different Native American tribes performed in an official powwow. The 18th annual powwow was sponsored by the student organization, Carolina Indian Circle.

The day-long event featured dancers, young and old, as well as vendors who sold authentic Native American crafts, art and jewelry. The powwow was part of a weekend-long celebration in honor of the Carolina Indian Circle’s 30th anniversary.
