Fond Farewell for Memorable Tar Heel Seniors
by Jon Leggette

As Jackie Manuel, Jawad Williams and Melvin Scott were introduced Sunday in the place they've called home
the last four years, something was very evident to the Smith Center crowd as they gave them one last farewell.

"I really think that Jackie, Melvin and Jawad deserved a day like this," said head coach Roy Williams.

The seniors aren't your typical college basketball players.

Jackie is a shooting guard who rarely ever shoots. He prefers to take charges and lock down the opponent's best player than hit threes. He does, however, have his moments.

Jawad is a power forward who would rather hang around behind the arc and hit shots from deep. Although he also has his moments in the paint where you better get out of his way.

Melvin was replaced in the starting line-up last year by Jackie but you won't hear him make a fuss about it. As streaky as a zebra's backside, you never know when he's going to miss or hit his first five shots.

But these three are more than Just basketball players.
Jackie not only has a fiance but a posse to boot. Melvin is the Ladies Man that your momma warned you about. Jawad is the strong, silent type who loves for you to doubt him just so he can prove you wrong.

From 8-and-20 in their first season to beating archrival Duke and an ACC regular season championship in their last. Coming full circle doesn't even begin to describe what these three seniors have been through or accomplished.

Their journey at Carolina is almost over but the next time they're be cutting down the nets maybe in St. Louis. But whatever the future holds, these seniors will go out as champions.
