State Launches Campaign to Fight Obesity
By Pamela Brown

The North Carolina Division of Public Health wants you to ditch those unhealthy habits in 2006.

The Eat Smart Move More campaign began in response to the rise in obesity. More than 61 percent of adults in the state are considered overweight or obese.

With the campaign in full swing, more restaurants will provide healthy-eating options on the menu.

The campaign encourages using the stairs instead of the elevator and avoiding vending machines.

Local nutrition counselor Alice Pettitt says the campaign will help people jumpstart a healthier life.
