New System Aims to Stop Identity Theft
By Shelley Basinger

As University employees continue their work around campus on the grounds or in the libraries, they'll change they way they sign in and out for work.

The University is using a new system to keep identity thieves at bay.

Employees will start using personal identification numbers, or PIDs, when filling out time sheets.

They usually use their social security numbers, which can be targeted by identity thieves. The Identity Theft Protection Act passed last May enforced stricter guidelines for social security protection.

A spokeswoman with the PID office says this is the first pay period employees will use their PIDs this way.
