County Takes Steps Toward Rabies Prevention
By Sarah Wiles

An unusually high number of rabies cases plagued Orange County last year, and Orange County Animal Services hopes to change that this year.

A rabies clinic was held on Saturday on the heels of the first case of the disease this year. Health officials stress the importance of prevention and vaccination.

They recommend keeping pets confined, ensuring that they won’t have contact with wildlife or stray animals. They also warn people to be aware of leaving food outside, as it may attract infected animals.

Officials also say that keeping pets’ vaccinations up to date is the most important part of protecting the community from rabies.
