UNC Women Dominate N.C. State
By Jennifer Maness

The undefeated Tar Heels defended their No. 1 spot against N.C. State on Thursday.

State started out strong with a Billie McDowell field goal. The Wolfpack ran the court and the crowd for most of the first half. A last second Rashanda McCants three-pointer sent the Heels into halftime with a nine point lead and a little extra confidence.

The second half belonged to the Heels. Camille Little and Erlana Larkins boasted 17 points each and led UNC to a 75-58 victory. Larkins said the team had to put last week’s game against Duke on the backburner and concentrate on State.

“We’re just excited to be number one,” Larkins said, “Like coach Haskell said, the first in UNC history. We knew that Sunday’s game was over and we had to focus because NC State was going to come in here and give us their best shot.”

Ivory Latta finished the game with 18 points and kept UNC fans on their feet until the very end. The victory was the Tar Heels’ 25th straight win in Carmichael Auditorium.
