Town May Offer Government Internships

Carolina is known for its ambitious students, and one way to get ahead is through internships. Chapel Hill town councilman Bill Thorpe has proposed an internship program to get students interested in local government. He’s offering academic internships as an incentive to get students involved. Mary Huff, a junior political science major, is interested in going into politics, and she thinks this is a good opportunity for students.

“I definitely think it’s a good idea because it’s hands-on work that people can be doing, and the fact that they get class credit gives them an incentive to take time out of their busy schedules and do it,” Huff says.

The program is designed to put students on the staff side, rather than the leadership side of government.
