Residents Push for Extra Safety Precautions
By Paula Cerutti

Five accidents involving pedestrians or bicyclists shocked town residents last month. Maeda Galinsky, the widow of one of the victims killed in a recent accident, and local residents have petitioned the Chapel Hill Town Council to do more to keep us all safe.

Council member Sally Greene compiled and presented the petitions. Greene said the town has to do a better job designing intersections to make Chapel Hill a safe community in which to walk or bike.

One of the main problems is that many hostile pedestrian intersections are not controlled by the town of Chapel Hill, but the state Department of Transportation.
