Ballot Write-Ins Bring Unusual Votes
By Sarah Wiles

Students can vote for anyone they want in campus elections, whether the candidates are listed on the ballot or not. Students can write in anyone’s name to vote for them.

Because of this option, the Board of Elections sees some very interesting responses. Some popular write-in votes this year included Tyler Hansbrough, Wes Miller, and other basketball players. Responses range from the unusual --with the Pirate Captain of N.C. State receiving votes -- to the unfortunate, with J.J. Redick receiving one vote.

Board of Elections Vice-Chairman Jim Brewer says that last year Roy Williams received so many write-in votes that it prevented any other candidates from getting a majority, thus forcing a run-off.

One other notable popular vote recipient is none other than “Your momma.”
