Carolina Football Players Try to Prove Mettle to NFL

Scouts and coaches from nearly every Nation Football League team descended on the Eddie Smith Field House for the annual NFL Pro-Timing Day to test and try out graduating Tar Heel football players and determine their chances of being chosen in April’s draft.

Players like linebacker Tommy Richardson were put through different kinds of drills to see if they have what it takes to play at the next level.

Richardson was very confident in his abilities, given that he had already auditioned for scouts at the league’s official combine in Indianapolis.

Quarterback Matt Baker wasn’t quite as confident as Richardson – he admitted to some jitters.

But Baker’s performance was one of the day’s best. The senior signal-caller’s passes were precise, on time and delivered with a fair amount of zip.

As for his maligned pass receivers, Jarwarski Pollock and Wallace Wright caught nearly every ball thrown their way, something they didn’t always accomplish during the regular season.

Head coach John Bunting considers guard Kyle Ralph a mid-round selection and think Wright, linebacker Tommy Davis and defensive tackle Chase Page are candidates to make a roster via free agency.
