Baseball Team Bounces Back Against Charlotte
By Michael Crowe

Seth Williams’ bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth put Carolina on top for good, and Jonathan Hovis pitched four scoreless innings in relief to give Carolina a 3-1 victory over Charlotte Tuesday night.

Coming off its first series loss of the season the baseball team looked to bounce back against the Charlotte 49ers.

The game proved to be a low-scoring affair with both starting pitchers, Spencer Steedley for Charlotte and Luke Putkonen for Carolina, allowing only 7 hits in eight combined innings.

Charlotte got on the board first with a single up the middle by Mike Ambrose in the third inning.

Carolina tied the game in the fifth on a passed ball.

In the eighth inning, Carolina’s bats went to work.

Chad Flack singled to lead off the inning, and then with the bases loaded, Seth Williams singled to left field, bringing in two runs.

Williams said the team was focused on getting over last weekend’s loss to Georgia Tech.

“It definitely ticked us off just sitting on the bus ride back,” Williams said. “We were just ready to get fired up and get back out on the field.”
