Women’s Basketball Team Travels to Boston
By Brian Allen

Emotions ran high as the team left Chapel Hill on the team bus and boarded their charter flight to Boston for the 2006 NCAA Women’s Final Four game.

When they arrived in Boston, they were greeted by an authentic town crier, as well as a few gifts for the Tar Heel ladies, such as jewelry from Tiffany’s.

After a free day on Friday, it was back to work for the Heels on Saturday, with an autograph session and an open practice at TD Banknorth Garden. The mood was light despite the tough drills coach Sylvia Hatchell ran them through. Almost half the lower bowl was filled with Tar Heel fans.

After practice, Hatchell was whisked away to be presented with the AP Coach of the Year award.

Sunday was the day of the big game, and even the Tar Heels fell for just the second time this season and the ever present smile was absent from Ivory Latta’s face, these players have no reason to hang their heads.

Just by making it to Boston, they proved that they belong among the nation’s elite.
