CNN Medical Analyst Visits Carolina
By Lyndsey Mikeal

CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta visited UNC Thursday to discuss national health issues. The audience watched video of what obesity does to human organs, such as the heart and liver.

Audience members brainstormed on ways to make the nation healthier, and some went on stage to voice their ideas.

Gupta said he chose to visit UNC because he hopes students will start grassroots programs to stress the importance of overall fitness.

“We don’t place a premium on it anymore. It’s kinda like sleep – we think that’s for people that are weak. We don’t have to go to the gym. We don’t have time to sleep an extra hour,” Gupta said. “People don’t place a premium on it. We're hoping to just change the attitude ultimately about the way people feel about fitness.”

Students used true/false cards to answer some health questions, such as “Do UNC students get the right amount of exercise?"

And the answer was “true,” as UNC has the highest number of healthy students in the country.
