Duke Holds Vigil to Unite Campus and Community
By Hanna A. Gordola

In an attempt to bridge the divide between its campus and the community, Duke University leaders held a vigil Wednesday. They say they hope to bring the University together after the lacrosse team rape accusation.

The vigil gave the community a chance to cope and come together in prayer.
But many students didn't even know there was a vigil. A few Duke students attended the vigil out of curiosity after noticing the gathering while walking to classes.

Duke employee Melissa Mills said that though she felt the vigil was a great idea, the lack of attendance might have defeated the purpose.

“It would’ve been wonderful if there had been more publicity that we were having the event beforehand so that more people could come,” Mills said. “Because I think more people feel hurt for the community because Duke is a member of the community.”

About 50 people attended the event.
