Bausch and Lomb Contact Solution Pulled from Shelves
By Christopher Walker

Stores are removing Bausch and Lomb's ReNu with Moisture Lock from their shelves this week after an outbreak of an eye fungus that can lead to blindness if left untreated.

More than one hundred cases of Fusarium Keratitis have been reported recently, with only 30 of those investigated. Of those 30, 28 were contact lens wearers and 26 of those used the ReNu Moisture Lock Solution.

Bausch and Lomb hasn’t issued a formal recall, but is urging customers to temporarily switch to another brand until the company finds the source of the problem.

The American Optometric Association advises all contact wearers to thoroughly clean lenses and cases with a different brand of solution to prevent any complications.

Fusarium Keratitis can also result from extended lens wear. The AOA recommends that all contact wearers comply with lens prescriptions and discontinue lens use after experiencing any irritation.

Bausch and Lomb will reimburse ReNu with Moisture Lock users. Customers wishing to return the product may do so by visiting www.bausch.com or by calling 1-888-666-2258.
