Drug May Reduce Risk of Breast Cancer
By Laisee Rintel

There's new hope for women at high risk of breast cancer. The osteoporosis drug Evista may provide an alternative to the drug Tamoxifin for preventing breast cancer.

A four-year study compared Evista and Tamoxifin in 20,000 women who were at a high risk of the disease because of their family and reproductive histories. The results showed the drugs were equally effective at preventing cancers.

Both drugs counteract the female hormone estrogen, which some breast cancers require to continue growing.
