Senior Ball Cut Short
By Paula Cerutti

Music, women in fancy shoes and men in tuxedos. It was just like any previous senior ball.

But then things changed. Everyone was dancing, when about 11:40 p.m. the lights of the Carolina Inn ball room came on. Seniors looked disappointed. The party was over. They were forced out of the room by the police who said the manager of the inn found too many airplane-size liquor bottles.

But senior class president Bobby Whisnant said drinking wasn't the problem. He said that the manger of the hotel found lots of broken glass on the dance floor, which was a safety issue.

Inn manager Mark Hayers didn’t want to talk to Carolina Week. It's not clear what actually caused organizers to end the ball early.
