It’s Carrboro
By Ashley Perryman

The quiet town of Carrboro might seem like the last place to inspire a hip-hop tribute, but two Carrboro musicians have done it with their hit song and video “It’s Carrboro.”

The song’s creator, Brian Risk, said he was surprised by the extent of community enthusiasm. “People would walk by and we’d be dancing and then they’d come in and start dancing with us, so we got this impromptu crowd for that dance shot.”

Many aspiring musicians found their audience by setting up websites like www.itscarrboro.com. But, if you really want to electrify a community, there’s nothing quite like getting your song played on the radio.

Billy Sugarfix put the song on a local FM station. Sugarfix said listeners responded almost immediately. “They took it and played it and I don’t think more than 10 minutes passed before someone called and asked them to play it again.”

It wasn’t long before fans downloaded the song thousands of times. Now it’s the talk of the town.
