| C-TOPS
Begins
By Jerri Simmons
Every summer UNC welcomes new students and their
families during orientation sessions called
C-TOPS. The first session of C-TOPS started
Monday with the arrival of about 300 students.
The C-Toppers were easily identifiable by their
blue folders and nervous facial expressions.
C-TOPS allows students and parents to get affiliated
with UNC.
The schedule is busy. Students must meet with
orientation leaders, and they do everything
from taking foreign language exams to picking
up new laptops. The students aren’t
the only busy ones. Parents attend many sessions,
like a presentation on student health services.
Orientation Leader Courtney Moser said the
C-TOPS experience exposes all of them to all
Carolina has to offer.
“I really hope that they learn how to
create themselves in this environment,” Moser
said. “Carolina has so many programs and
so many things they can get involved in, and
I hope C-TOPS invites them to join those things,
and really informs them that Carolina is so
broad and so diverse. That everyone can be able
to feel accepted.”
There are 15 C-TOPS sessions. Each session
lasts for two days with almost 3,500 students
attending this summer.
